Suite 9   Owner’s Delight

design by David Call

David Call has worked as a design consultant for almost 20 years, but like most designers he’s usually designing for a client. “When this came along, it was exactly what I wanted, to do my own design my own way,” he says. And what a design it is. The thought was to be dazzling; formidable without being dark or heavy. To that end, he chose a crisp palette of pearl white with gold and chocolate accents. The countertops and most of the walls are white; one wall is wrapped in chocolate leather tile. The porcelain floor shimmers like granulated sugar. Custom cabinets are of horizontal macassar wood; LED lighting beneath them creates a hovering effect. Huge abstracts artworks by Jo Mattison feature smears of big, bold primary color. Call describes the finished product as “severe and wonderful,” and the effect is very New York City.
